I honestly think they did a nice job with this - they kept the original roof lines but added in dormers on either side. It's in keeping with the building's style and rather pleasing visually.
One of the workers told me it's extremely nice up there in the new second floor apartment. "Too rich for me, that's for sure!" was his comment, but it was said with admiration.
So... not all change is dreadful. The Quarterdeck will remain and its home has been carefully shored up.
Now we just need summer to get here so we can wander in the front door in beachy sandals!

Dear Bulman Marine----The Quarterdeck has been such an icon and symbol of the great survival instinct of SCituate ----I hope you will treasure it and care for it in the next epoch of Scituate's history! With a brief life as a scene in the "Witches of Eastwick"---it has belied the commercialism of other business ventures!!! I wish you well in your new venture----but I truly wish that our town will be able to maintain a beloved sight adjacent to our beloved Town Pier!!!Very Sincerely-Faith E. Bowker-Maloney
ReplyDeleteVery nice, there aren't any boathouses here in Los Angeles.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite place to come back home to visit! I bought my metallic studs for my jeans, and shell earrings (which I still have!) in the 70's. I still go back every time I get home to Scituate just to browse and buy a T-shirt. Won't be the same with a new owner. She was part of the history! Please preserve our old friend the Quarterdeck.
ReplyDeleteNo worries, Joan isn't going anywhere - she's sold the building to Bulman Marina but will remain as a tenant.
ReplyDeleteThankfully the Quarter Deck will be back..someone started the rumor that the store was GONE! It's a must stop in store when I come home to visit!
ReplyDeleteA few great things about the Quarter deck include:
ReplyDelete- The stories i can tell my kids - like the old lobster tanks,
- The pictures we we can review in the back
- That my kids love going there when we are in Scituate as much as I did and still do and,
- That the tradition can continue.
they really did do a good job! when i saw your post about the 2nd floor i was almost horrified :)
