At Christmas I no more desire a rose...
and yet here we are, almost December, and everyone's in t-shirts playing golf and admiring the blooms that persist. As I type this, it is 60 degrees outside - yes, sixty degrees at 8 pm on a late November night in New England. This balmy weather will persist into next week.
Bizarre.

Are you ready for some football?
Football games on Thanksgiving Day are an American tradition; high school teams draw alumni in town for the holiday as well as their usual crowds. This morning the Scituate Sailors took on the Hingham Harbormen in a home game.
I am grateful for my husband Michael, who went out on his own with a camera to take this photo for today's post. I'm still currently getting my butt kicked by my asthma, so Mr. Scituate Daily Photo stepped up to the plate.
I hope your day was filled with blessings and bounty and that you have much to be grateful for today and every day.

Gobble gobble gobble!
On this eve of Thanksgiving - when the grocery stores are a tangled mass of shopping carts and the liquor store has lines stretching back to the beer coolers - when the highways and byways and airlines strain to contain all the traveling that's being done - when folks are girding their loins for encounters with their crazy conservative uncles and loopy liberal cousins - when there's never quite enough room or time or patience -
Remember to gather up your smallest and simplest blessings and be grateful for them.
And give thanks.

Monochrome Monday: Chicken Soup
Scituate Daily Photo has been under the weather and not getting out to get photos. Hopefully we'll return to our regularly scheduled programming soon.

Find your own sunny patch of sky
Today I really needed sunlight and blue skies - but mother nature was not obliging. So I reached back to a recent sunny day and made that my mental image for the day instead.

Go Sci-Coh Superbowl
The SciCoh Sharks are a local youth football league for Scituate & Cohasset. Looks like their superbowl was last weekend and this window paint job is hanging on after the fact - hope you did well!

Ouch.
This office park is located across the street from the North Scituate commuter rail stop and is pulling no punches in advertising for new tenants! I'm sure my husband isn't the only parent who said, "Ouch!" when he saw that sign....

Where have all the pumpkins gone? Long time passing...

In my wanderings this morning, I came across a small wooded area filled with jack o'lanterns. They hadn't been stolen and smashed, but rather laid out carefully among the trees. They still smiled and grinned despite the solitude and the decay. Perhaps they're feeding birds and squirrels; perhaps, come the warm weather next year, their seeds will emerge as flowering vines.
Perhaps they're waiting for the Great Pumpkin.
This is definitely one of those instances where the actual story behind the event could not possibly be as good as all the possibilities I've come up with in my head!

Thar She Blows!
This particular whale was at the Scituate Library today, thanks to the good folks at the Stellwagen Bank National Marine Sancutuary. With their "Whales in Your Backyard!" program, folks can learn all about whales of every shape and size and have a tremendous amount of fun while doing so.
The Stellwagen Bank National Marine Sanctuary is celebrating its twentieth anniversary this year - and here's to twenty more, because we are very lucky to have such a wonderful resource here in Scituate!

Wednesday Whatzit
This week I'll start off with a fairly recognizable where:
Of course, I could be wrong - but I hope it's fairly recognizable to my local readers.
So... I know what I know (that's a thing that I keep in the back of my head) - but tell me, dear readers, what do you know about today's Wednesday Whatzit?
On a completely unrelated note, I wanted to apologize to those to whom I owe comments, replies and so on. I am running behind on things, as my hands are full - well, honestly, overly full - with other pressing matters right now. I hope to soon get those matters set back in order, but if I'm lagging in anything right now - well, that's why. I'm sorry.

Marshmallows toasting over an open fire....
The annual Songs & S'mores Girl Scout event was this afternoon; hundreds of marshmallows were toasted and smooshed in between graham crackers and pieces of chocolate. There were sticky hands and songs from each troop - just another event that makes Scituate such a nice place to be!
Many thanks to the town-wide Scout leaders who work so hard to make events like this happen every year!

Fly into the sun
From a technical perspective, it's a deeply flawed photo. But the image itself appealed to me to let it go.

Theme Day: Fences
This fence went up recently on a gas station on Rt. 3A. The station has been closed for around two years now; periodically someone comes by and puts flowers in the planters or otherwise tidies up the lot, but still it remains shuttered. I'm hopeful that the increased activity means it might be opening for business again.

Halloween in the Harbor!

The lovely ladies of the Front Street Book Shop were having a ball last night!

The Quarterdeck was getting its Halloween groove on.

This punk rock dog was being toted around in a Baby Bjorn.

Witchy Nancie was accompanied by her winged Chi, Cecily.

And this guy was mesmerizing little kids left and right.
