Monochrome Monday: Irish Moss

Yum, it's a great big bucket of Irish Moss! Doesn't that seaweed look delicious? No? Are you sure? Because it's in your ice cream, soup, jelly and mayonnaise. It can be found in cosmetics and toothpaste and is used in homebrewing - and the harvesting of Irish moss was a major industry in Scituate for Irish immigrants beginning in the mid 1800s.

This particular bucket of seaweed is at the Scituate Maritime and Irish Mossing Museum. They are currently hosting a wonderful exhibit on shipwrecks off our coast; I highly recommend local folks pay it a visit!



On a side note, it looks like my computer woes will be coming to an end in the near future - thanks for hanging in there while I've cobbled together solutions in the meanwhile!
