Barn swallows

When we first ducked into the blind at the wildlife sanctuary, barn swallows erupted from the building. They were not at all pleased to share their shelter with us – except for two, who stubbornly stayed put on their window ledge and did their best to ignore us entirely. The four of us sat quietly and watched their friends wheeling acrobatically through the raindrops outside.

Maybe it was the nest in the rafters that made them brave. We didn’t pry, just watched the turtles meditating on a rain-dimpled log and listened to the frogs making rude noises in the muck.

Quiet moments shared – just a few bedraggled creatures trying to keep out of the rain.
