This field trip didn’t take us far from Scituate at all – just over the North River to Marshfield, where we discovered the Nelson Memorial Forest. We knew nothing about the property before we set out to explore it, not even its name – we just pulled into the nondescript dirt parking lot by the side of the road and headed on in.

The trails at Nelson Memorial Forest are well-marked and we followed one right down to the North River. It was a lovely, peaceful spot that’s apparently popular with fishermen. We sat for a while and imagined what it was like to move newly built wooden ships down the winding and crooked salt river to the sea.

Field Trip Friday is an occasional feature. Believe it or not, sometimes I actually leave town. With my camera, no less.
